VIEW FROM THE PULPIT               March 2017

Included or Excluded     President Trump’s Executive Order to exclude nationals from Muslim majority countries caused some complicated legal questions as to whether he had the right to go against previous legislation allowing travel visas for people to enter the USA, irrespe ctive of race, religion, gender or ethnic background. Various political bodies and lawyers opposed the President’s first order that included Iraq, so that nation was removed from the  ‘No-list’ to permit freedom of entry for its nationals. Countries excluded on the second Executive order are Syria, Libya, Iran, Yemen, Sudan and Somalia, but this order is being challenged in the courts

Some Sports people get excluded from their  sport. This can be caused by using ilegal drugs, bad behaviour or criminal activities.

Some people such as doctors,Solicitors are not immune from being excluded from their  professional body because of malpractice.

Many holiday makers choose an all-inclusive package to ensure that every facility is provided for their enjoyment, ensuring a carefree time. When folks go on holiday they often take reading material with them but seldom will that include a Bible.

I recently visited a Bible Exhibition in our town and discovered a surprising statistic, that throughout the world, fifty Bibles are sold every minute, so globally the Good Book is being read , perhaps you need to join them, it’s a great read.

One young girl who visited the exhibition said that the thing that she had learned is that the Bible is sixty six books in one. For her that is a start which could lead her on a great discovery journey that would take her ultimately to Heaven.

From cover to cover the Word of God tells us who God is, of His power, His love and compassion, His grace and mercy to sinners like us, His forgiveness to repentant sinners and the great all-inclusive salvation that is available to us all.

President Trump’s Excecutive order excludes nations from entering in. Jesus commanded His disciples, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned”.(Mark 15:15) You will observe that God’s offer of salvation is limitless, it is to all the world. The Gospel is powerful, Paul said in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Both texts tell us that it is a matter of choice on our part, this is where faith or believing or trusting is our responsibility. If we believe that Jesus died on account of our sin and that He rose again and we call upon Him in prayer, then He will forgive ,and save us. Upon receiving Christ as saviour one receives the gift of eternal life. Since the day of Penticost when the Church was born, millions of people world wide have been saved and are awaiting the trumpet call to Heaven.

John tells us in of those who are included in that great company, no believer is excluded .“And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation,” What joy that will be!

I heard it said recently as an excuse not to believe, that no one has come back to tell us. The truth is that Christ died for our sins, He triumphed over the grave, death could not hold Him and He did come back to tell us that Heaven is a reality and trusting Him will take us there. Jesus said in John 14:1, Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.  In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The choice one makes is for real, it is not ‘pie in the sky when you die’, eternal life begins when one receives the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour, It is a different quality of life.

At the end of Revelation it tells us of those people who will be excluded from Heaven, it says, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Are you included in in that list? Jesus said in John 8:21, “I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.”

This word is final, I sign off with the last verse of John ch.3, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

May the Lord bless you, and I look forward to seeing you in Heaven?
